What if my child doesn’t feel like working?

It is true that Montessori students are given significant freedom to explore topics that interest them. However, this freedom is not absolute. As in all societies, there are expectations on the students - of what they should know and be able to do according to their level and age.

Montessori Guides are aware of these standards and ensure that students live up to them, offering as much structure and guidance as is necessary. If a child needs additional time and support to ‘catch up', that is always provided. Choosing to do nothing is not an option - the child will be supported in making a suitable choice, although it is appreciated that we all need moments of rest and quiet contemplation.
