Children tend not to be ready for a Montessori class at five. The final year at a Montessori preschool is a very important year in the life of a five-year old child because they begin to develop leadership qualities, take on more responsible roles as well as understand the links of their acts and the needs and rights of others.  Younger children in the classroom aspire to the work of their older classmates who in turn act as ‘little teachers’ reinforcing their own learning.

As it's important for your child's social as well as academic development that they be given the opportunity to complete the age 3-6 cycle in preschool, children enter the Mahurangi Montessori Primary around their sixth birthday.
